Dozens of European emerging artists played at the third edition of MIL Lisbon.

MIL - Lisbon International Music Network is the annual music conference and convention that focuses on expanding new music to worldwide markets. This year, dozens of artists from all over Europe and the world performed at nine different venues in the heart of Lisbon, with Musicbox, the organizer of this showcase, being its main stage. Among many included the Norwegian duo Hysj, most prominently known to the Liveurope audience as one of the headliners of the Liveurope festival at Bl in September 2018. As Liveurope, we also organized our biannual members platform meeting, and the setting of this festival was particularly interesting to our members.

Liveurope's speed-meetings and panels

Besides hosting our biannual platform meeting with workshops, Liveurope was the organizer of a speed meeting session as well as two panels. The "sold-out" speed meeting sessions were a great opportunity for managers to meet with Liveurope's bookers and for the programmers to get personally acquainted with representatives from the best up-and-coming international talent.

With LiveDMA, we explored the role of music venues as hubs for new talent with Marcus Carbon from L'Aeronef (FR)Paul Bradshaw from Rockhal (LU), and Brazil's Fabricio Nombre representing A Construtora Msica e Cultura, a company dedicated to artists' live careers in the country. From this group, we learned about the most interesting initiatives on the roles that venues play on a national, but also an international level to lift emerging artists at the beginning of their careers. A particular reflection of this are venues with incentives to develop innovative mechanisms to promote young talent, like L'Aeronef's "airbandnb" project.

Europe is not dead. Long live Europe. We were eased into a conversation that many often have difficulty channeling in a way that resonates with all present. This panel, in front of a full audience on Friday afternoon, brought music professionals together to share ideas on what the most successful storytelling tools of Europe are. Agreeably among those present: It's the artists that are here to tell these stories, and the best way to tell the story of Europe is to create a  structure that makes it possible and encouraging for musicians to develop their artistry, a supportive and positive system in form of venue collaborations, artistic exchange programs, and education initiatives and cross-border collaborative cultural projects often found under the flag of Creative Europe.

The Liveurope family welcomes aspiring member: Santeria Toscana 31 from Milan, Italy!

Out of dozens of applicants from every corner of Europe, the final choice of the aspiring venue came down to Santeria Toscana 31, a rather newcomer on the Italian live music scene. Having been created in 2015, this venue quickly gained an iconic status in its ecosystem, bringing opportunities for even more culture in the city of Milan.
