New series of recommendations to strengthen the EU support for the music sector
On 6 April, Centre national de la musique (CNM) organised the final event of ‘One Voice for European Music’ an initiative aimining to strengthen the EU support for the music sector.
Liveurope is among the diverse organisations that took part in the working groups that discussed some of the most burning challenges of the sector. The discussions culminated in a final report containing key recommendations, which we fully endorse.
We particularly commend the following recommendations and call the European Institutions to:
- Better recognize the economic, cultural and social importance of music in NextGenerationEU, in current and future EU transversal funding programmes and in the current and future Creative Europe programmes;
- Develop scaled-up and ambitious cascading grant schemes to increase European programming and cooperation (on the model of Liveurope and European Talent Exchange Programme) in the current and future Creative Europe programmes;
- Build on the “European Music Export Strategy study” (2020), to deploy an ambitious set of support measures for the international circulation and visibility of European music in the current and future Creative Europe programmes;
- Deploy an independent and ambitious vehicle of data collection and analysis at EU level, building on the “Feasibility study for the establishment of a European Music Observatory” (2020) and the current “Music Ecosystem” Horizon Programme call for proposals.
