Come vote, come dance: Melkweg calls their audience to cast their ballot with the sELECTION festival
On June 6, the Netherlands will go to the polls to elect their representatives for the European Parliament. For the occasion, Melkweg is transforming into a lively polling station, welcoming citizens to cast their votes and join a vibrant celebration of democracy through culture.
To encourage voter turnout, our Amsterdam venue is hosting the mini-festival sELECTION, where voters can dive into thought-provoking discussions, enjoy films, and discover fresh new artists from across Europe with the support of Liveurope.
The lineup for this election night features the Portuguese groove band Casa Bonita, and the energetic experimental pop artist M LORE from Finland.
The theatre crew Kiesmannen is also joining the festival to bring their insights on the campaign surrounding the European elections after coming back home from a successful tour.
DutchCulture/Creative Europe Desk NL will screen two films in Melkweg’s cinema: Green Border from the Polish Director Agnieszka Holland and Io Capitano directed by the Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone. Both films, nominated for 'Best Film' at the 2023 European Film Awards, provide a critical look at the idea of a utopian Europe through the lens of migration.
Join us for a night where civic duty meets culture and music!
You can discover more about the programme on Melkweg’s website.
