This year, the Melkweg once again hosted a range of exceptional Liveurope programs, with several shows that stood out for their success and energy. From intimate debut performances to sold-out shows once again, various Liveurope acts at Melkweg proved just how vibrant and groundbreaking the European music scene is.
Yaelokre (IS)
The Icelandic-Filipino sensation Yaelokre (real name Keath Ósk) made their Amsterdam debut with a powerful show in the OZ, playing to a sold-out crowd. The singer-songwriter first gained fame on TikTok with their single “Happy Hare”, a 60s-style flower-folk song blended with modern indie elements. Their music is accompanied by a self-created fantasy world, inspired by the fairy tales their father used to read to them. Fans eagerly participate in this imagined universe by adding their own characters and stories to the lore.
NewDad (IE)
The Irish indie-rock band NewDad performed this month in a sold-out OZ. Together, they bring dreamy indie rock with a strong dose of shoegaze. The tour was a celebration of the milestones the band has achieved so far. Just a month before the tour, they released their second studio album “Alter.” On this record, the band sounds more confident and mature than on their debut, without losing their signature dreamy sound.
Darren Kiely (IE)
Irish singer Darren Kiely uses his folk-inspired pop music as a way to express his emotions. Last February, he performed to a packed OZ which was an impressive step up from his first show in the UP the previous year. The singer has a deep-rooted love for traditional Irish music, which he blends with modern influences. Darren’s unique take on folk-pop and his lush storytelling reflect the Irish countryside where he grew up — something he brought to the OZ stage as well.
