Our colleagues at Mixtape 5 sat down for a quick chat with the Portuguese band Hause Plants after their first show in Sofia.
How would you define your sound?
Our music is very guitar-driven. Guitar melodies and textures are at the core of the music we compose. We always start with that instrument and, as soon as we have a nice puzzle, we work on the vocal melodies, the beat and all the arrangements. We focus heavily on how the song makes you feel, so production is also a huge part of what we do. We try to make the songs as dreamy as possible.
What does this tour mean to you?
It means reconnecting with old friends we have made across Europe over two years of playing abroad, meeting new friends and spending time together as bandmates. It also means making the songs come to life, which is how we feel every time we play them live.
Why is playing live important to you?
Being on tour is the materialisation of our music, a chance to meet new people, to see old friends and to share new experiences through music. It is definitely the most important part of Hause Plants and a big reason why we do this.
What is your opinion on Liveurope’s mission?
In a global context, the EU is composed of many small to medium-size countries. If we all work together to make the EU a big market, where it doesn’t matter if you’re from Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, Denmark, etc., etc., we can benefit from the advantages of being a big industry and a big market.
What do you think is needed for the European music sector to thrive?
Investment in smaller artists, more initiatives like Liveurope, greener and more affordable ways of traveling within the continent, like bus and trains, and more connection between bands from every EU country.
Can you share a standout moment or memory from your performance at Club Mixtape 5?
We ended up not having a full house but everyone who showed up stayed until the end, danced, and wanted to meet us after the show. Also, we were really well received by everyone and went to this amazing restaurant in the city centre.
