Liveurope family reunites at MIL 2021!

After more than 18 months with hundreds of kilometres between us and many (!) digital encounters, the Liveurope crew finally got the chance to come together during this year’s edition of MIL (15 - 17 September).

Discussions on the platform’s future, inspiring workshops, informal meetings with local and international music professionals and artists, and – of course – music discoveries were all part of the encounter.

Liveurope curated talk: A New Generation Of Artists May Be Lost. How To Fight That?

What do we need to ensure new artists can develop their careers in a sustainable way and grow as professionals? How can we best implement support schemes to boost the future of the European music ecosystem? 

These questions were at the heart of this panel curated by Liveurope and with the participation of Tom Bonte – Ancienne Belgique (BE), Clemence Renaut – ATC Live (FR), Chloé Nataf – TREMPO (FR), & Filipa Marinho – artist (PT). You can find some of the high points of the discussions on this Twitter thread.

Speed-meetings with the Liveurope bookers

It wouldn’t be a Liveurope meeting without the opportunity to engage with the local music scene of the hosting country and catch up with other international colleagues. That’s why the Liveurope bookers took part in two speed-meetings with the goal to seed new connections and potentially increase touring opportunities for the artists in MIL’s line-up.

Liveurope concerts

Many promising up-and-coming artists from all over Europe took over MIL’s stages with the support of Liveurope (see full line-up). 

One of the most anticipated acts was the recently formed duo with electronic music producer Pedro Da Linha (PT) and flamenco 2.0 singer Álvaro Romero (ES), who presented the outcomes of their Liveurope x MIL residency on Thursday evening. Da Linha’s beats deeply rooted in the melting pot of the Lisbon suburbs combined with Romero’s boundary-pushing flamenco melodies has resulted in a transcending performance that quickly warmed us from inside out. The duo took us on a musical trip through today’s Lisbon and Andalusian scenes with an uncanny and uncompromised mixture of afrolatino and electronic tendencies.
